These are some photos I took at night, using a telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.8 and ISO 800. I used a low shutter speed, but high enough that I didn't need a tripod. Both images were originally two each; one slighty out-of-focus and one in focus. In both cases, I used gradients in layer masks in Photoshop to merge the two original images together. I then used a selective gaussian blur.
In making these images, I've realized that Photoshop's gaussian blur isn't discriminatory; it blurs everything the same, including light sources. Thus, had I taken one in-focus photo only in each case, the two images would not have round, globular lights, such as those on the bridge, in the former, and on the car and street lights, in the latter.
